I downloaded GIMP the other day (and still lol at the name :rofl: ) and after a bit of trial and error have managed to work out what most of it does so, I spent most of today doing this. I still don't have a tablet yet so it's not quite as smooth as I'd have liked but oh well...

I've never messed with GIMP (usually I work in Painter and edit in Photoshop), so I'm not familiar with its options. Maybe there's some sort of feather/anti-aliasing option for the selection? That would get rid of the jagged edge. Another way to do it would be to work in a larger size than the intended finished version, and then reduce the size using a program that recalculates edges when you resize.

Regarding tablets - used ones are great. My wacom is 10 years old and works just as well as my husband's new one with all the bells and whistles, although I've had to replace the pen a few times. Small ones are also just as good as large ones. As long as it's got tilt and pressure, the cheapest one you can find should do you just fine.

Yeah, this was more of an experiment rather than anything hugely impressive but I'm still pretty chuffed. ^^ I still have my old tablet lurking around somewhere but it died a year or so ago and I'm not sure if it was just that the pen needed replacing or whether it was actually dead and gone. XD

It's probably the pen - luckily we have two tablets, so when one of our pens goes out, we just take the other person's pen and wave it around and find out if that's the problem. Pens go out constantly, I've replaced mine I think three times and he's replaced his once. The tablets themselves seem to be a lot tougher.

I really like the idea of digital backgrounds, shame there aren't any photo shows specifically for edited pictures.

That looks lovely Cruz blends really well with the background I always lol at the name Gimp too, but it's a lot cheaper than Photoshop!
