The RESS Finishwork Exhibition is up and running for 2009! Here’s the current show schedule:

This year, the beautiful Rio Rondo “Okie Rio” will be the canvas for the Advanced division. RESS has 10 Okie Rios at a discount price on hand for those who wish to purchase a new Okie for the show — stay tuned for more information. Pre-existing work on Okie Rio is eligible, as well.

For the Intermediate and Novice divisions, the lovely “Breyer® Classic American Quarter Horse Mare” will be the canvas.

Entry Fees for Novice and Intermediate Divisions
Fee for ONE entry:
~ US$20 Member: Exhibition entry + scorecard-based critique
~ US$10 Business Member: Exhibition entry + scorecard-based critique
~ US$30 non-member: Entry into the show, but no scorecard-based critique

Fee for EACH ADDITIONAL ENTRY:
~ US$10 Member: Exhibition entry + scorecard-based critique
~ US$5 Business Member: Exhibition entry + scorecard-based critique
~ US$20 non-member: Entry into the show, but no scorecard-based critique

Fee for Pending Member:
~ US$50: Exhibition entry for one entry + scorecard-based critique + basic Membership (US$30). You’ll be provided with a Membership Application Form to complete and return to the Treasurer with your entry fee.
~ US$10 Member for a second additional entry: Exhibition entry + scorecard-based critique

And great news! Jitterbug has been discounted to $75 ppd in the US for the Jitterbug Showcase classes! Please add $15 for international shipments. This is a great little sculpture!

Also, Okie Rios are available ONLY to the Advanced Division. As per the prospectus, the Breyer® Classic American Quarter Horse Mare is the selected canvas for the Intermediate and Novice Divisions. As per the rules, all entrants must do their own prepping as well, so please…no pre-prepped pieces, please. Part of being a well-rounded quality finisher is knowing how to prep!

Plus, there’s a $15 shipping charge on Okie Rios going to to foreign addresses.

Now if you want to pay using a check or money order, the Treasurer cannot hold an Okie Rio for you pending receipt of payment. However, RESS does take PayPal, or VISA/MC for immediate shipment.

This exhibition offers valuable critiques to participating artists while providing a unique opportunity to showcase sculptural work.  

 We welcome and encourage all artists to submit their work! We would love to see your talent!

This exhibition is open to realistic sculptures that are a full, three-dimensional form of the equine. Both members and non-members alike are welcome to enter, and each artist may submit up to three different sculptures for consideration. A written critique of each submitted sculpture will be available at the request of the artist.

 Deadline for entry is April 12, 2008!

This exhibition is open to realistic relief work focused on the equine, with categories that include Sculpture, Finish, Combined and In-Progress work! There are separate classes for resin, metals and fired media plus Novice classes, too! And non-members are welcome to enter! Each artist may submit up to three different relief sculptures for consideration and scorecards will be given to RESS members who enter!

Our juror for this show is Sommer Prosser and our Novice juror is Karen Beeson! Thank you, ladies, for your insightful expertise!

So let’s see your wonderful tiles, plaques, pins, pendants, ornaments, medallions, pottery and other relief work in this new and unique showcase opportunity!

1) Upon request, each entry will receive a scorecard from each of the jurors, based on the Finishwork Scorecard for RESS events.

Entry Rules

1) This exhibition is open to a maximum total entry number of 30; one entry per person.

2) This exhibition is open only to those Kara-Kush’s purchased through and for this exhibition; Kara-Kush not purchased through and for this contest are prohibited.

3) This exhibition is open to all people.

Current and incoming directors and officers may audit the exhibition for evaluation only, but are ineligible for prizes, placings, or entry discounts.

4) The entry must be prepped and painted, in entirety, by the entrant.

5) The entry may be painted any realistic color desired, to the

best of the entrants’ ability.

6) All media is permitted, but remaking or customization of the

Kara-Kush is prohibited.

7) Only one category per entry. Entrants will purchase one blank Kara-Kush resin for $235.00, plus $50 entry fee that will be refunded upon receipt of entry into contest. See Purchasing Instructions for details; only one model per entrant.

9) Entrants may show or sell their exhibition Kara-Kush,finished or unfinished, prior to the announcement of results.

10) All images are due by June 17, 2007, no exceptions. It’s a good idea to submit images early in case replacement acceptable images are needed.

11) Entrant names will be kept confidential by those RESS representatives involved in the exhibition until results are announced.

12) RESS reserves the right to use the images of the winners for promotion and display purposes for RESS, the artists or other advertising goals.

13) Entrants are expected to finish their Kara-Kush entries according to the stipulations of this exhibition; the purchase of Kara-Kush resin for this exhibition indicates that the entrant agrees to the exhibition rules.

2) Dilute Colors (to include silvers, champagnes, pearls, etc.)

3) Pattern (Patterns includes all sabinos, including those with white on the chin or extending past the knees and/or hocks.)

March 2007

At the Realistic Equine Sculpture Society, Inc. our mission is “to encourage excellence in realistic equine sculpture and associated artistry, promote an interactive education-oriented professional community, educate the public about equine sculpting and broaden artistic development through exhibition, events, education, demonstration and critique”.

In this spirit, RESS is pleased to announce the “Clinky Spinny” glazing exhibition in March 2007! This exhibition provides members who work in fired media to showcase their skills on the exclusive bisque version of its popular mini resin edition “Spinnaker”. Entrants will also have the opportunity to have their work critiqued and promoted in conjunction with this exhibition to help foster this specialized art form associated with realistic equine sculpture.

Entries will be evaluated based on a standardized scorecard that regards such elements as the effectiveness of shading, to the precision and attentiveness to detail to artist _expression and emotion, among other components that result in a quality piece of glazed finishwork.

A Best of Show, Second Honor and three Honorable Mentions in each division will be awarded, along with a People’s Choice Award, based on the votes from the RESS membership. Sponsor awards will also be given, as they’re developed.

The exhibition will be open to the public on June 23, 2007 and results announced on June 30, 2007.
