Photo Friday- Andalusians

Photo Friday is a new  series on FL featuring real equine photos from various themes every week.  Weekly themes will include  breed, color, performance related photos or anything else that we can think of.  This week’s theme is Andalusians, take a look at the gallery and enjoy.  Maybe you will find something for reference or some inspiration for your next project.

All of the pictures for Photo Friday will be from Flickr and chosen from those marked with a Creative Commons license.  This is a less restrictive version of a copyright so be sure to check out the license requirements if you want to use these for a project in the future.

To see a larger version of each photo just click on the photo and you will be taken to their page on Flickr where you can find a larger version.  Many of these photographers have many more horse photos in their photo streams so be sure to check those out as well.

DaCaprio by Stacey Tumlinson

DaCaprio by Tumlinson

DaCaprio is a Mini Warmblood stallion performing the Piaffe sculpted by Stacey Tumlinson.   He is 4.25″ long and will be a limited edition of 150-200 pieces total.  His release will be split up into batches that may be released several months apart.  Currently there are 100 released.  Of those over half are sold as of March 1, 2010.

Please note that the photos were taken Feb. 25 and are not the greatest due to the apoxie and green filler.  I didn’t want to spray him with white primer as it fills in details and give a rough texture.  Since  then I have done a little fine tuning to his face and tail, adding detail as well.  He balances perfectly on 2 legs and his tail tip.

DaCaprio is currently open for ordering.  Please note that it will be 4-8 weeks before castings begin shipping.  He is priced at $95 ppd in the US and $100 ppd International.
For more photos and to place your order visit his page on Stacey’s website.

Iaret Egyptian Arabian Mare by Morgen Kilbourn

Iaret by Morgen Kilbourn

Iaret by Morgen Kilbourn

Introducing “Iaret” A feisty striking and half rearing young Egyptian Arabian mare in classic scale sculpted by Morgen Kilbourn.  She is named after her pose, which is represented in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs as a striking cobra. There’s quite a bit about it out there online under Egyptology discussions (and not all of it in agreement) and I wouldn’t want to misquote anything! Suffice to say that this defiant little mare embodies the noble bearing of a young queen who is displeased and demanding respect.

Due to this particular pose representing an extremely tense and quick movement horses make when greeting each other and establishing hierarchy, I’ve decided it might be best if I share a number of videos to give buyers a feel for the movement in action. It’s quite hard to photograph but anyone who’s had their upper fence boards knocked down from over the fence greetings can appreciate how quickly it happens. Three quick videos of this can be found here.  Horses make this behavioral gesture in all sorts of situations to display defiance.

Iaret is $165.00 postage paid in the United States see her page on Morgen’s website for more information and payment options.

Cast in white resin with a silica filler mixed into the resin ( that what makes that stone look) There is really no clean up or prepping for this medallion. It cast so clean and nice and should be a lot of  fun to paint. The photos portrayed here are an in-progress piece and an unpainted casting. Peace is now casting!
